Advances in sensor technology with higher spatial, spectral and temporal resolutions are revolutionizing the way remote sensing data are collected, managed and processed. Latest-generation instruments for Earth observation are now producing a nearly-continual stream of high-dimensional data, and this explosion in the amount of collected information has rapidly introduced new processing challenges. High performance computing has become an essential tool to deal with the big data and address applications with high societal impact such as simulation of Earth atmospheres, monitoring of natural disasters (e.g. earthquakes and floods), or tracking of man-induced hazards (e.g. wild-land and forest fires, oil spills and other types of chemical contamination). Many of these applications require timely responses for swift decisions which depend upon (near) real-time performance of algorithm analysis. In recent years, GPUs have evolved into highly parallel many-core processors with tremendous computing power and high memory bandwidth to offer two to three orders of magnitude speedup over the CPUs. Intel's Xeon Phi coprocessors are also delivering promising computational performance.  Parallel and distributed computing facilities and algorithms have become indispensable tools to tackle the issues of processing massive remote sensing data.

This workshop provides an interdisciplinary forum for exchanging the latest research results and views in the area of parallel and distributed computing for passive and active remote sensing applications. Specifically, high-performance computing papers will be solicited in, but not limited to, the following areas:

Paper Submission

Submissions should include abstract, 5-10 keywords, and the e-mail address of the corresponding author and be in PDF format. Each submission must not exceed 6 pages in the IEEE 8.5'' x 11'' two-column format with 10-12 point font, including tables and figures.

Full paper should be submitted to electronic submission system before the submission deadline. All submitted papers will be peer-reviewed by three experts in this field. Papers accepted for PDCRS 2012 workshop will be published by the IEEE Computer Society Press. All accepted papers will be included in IEEE Xplore and indexed by EI. At least one of the authors must register the paper and attend the conference to present the work in order that the accepted paper can be put into IEEE digital library.
